Privacy policy

First things first

Let us make one thing very clear: We very much care about our personal data, and we do not have any intention to collect more than the required minimum to run this service.

General

This website is built and operated by our company called "Internethelden UG (haftungsbeschränkt)". You may find the details about this company in the imprint at https://rootli.app/company/imprint. The servers that are required to serve this fine website to you are located at the Hetzner Cloud Datacenters (EU-site only). You are invited to check their privacy statements at https://www.hetzner.com/legal/privacy-policy.

IP address

Your IP-address is stored in the server's logfiles, which will be rotated after 24 hours. The reason for storing your IP-address is simple: You could be a criminal trying to attack this website. To protect the webserver against these kinds of attacks, the IP-address is stored. If you are being blocked, the duration of this ban is also max. 24 hours. We trust in you that you know you did wrong.

How do I get out?

Well. You can't. This is one of these things we really need to store to keep things up and running. But if you do not trust us and our webservers, you are free to use VPN or the TOR network.

Your email-address

The newsletter

If you decide to subscribe to our newsletter, we'll also store your email-address. The service that we are using is called mailcoach, which comes from the fine people of spatie, located in the Netherlands. Once you subscribe to our newsletter, you need to confirm this action by clicking a link, which is sent to you via email.

Of course, you are free to check out the privacy statement of mailcoach at https://mailcoach.app/privacy-policy.

How do I get out?

If you don't want to read our newsletter, you are free to unsubscribe anytime. Each newsletter contains an "unsubscribe"-link at the bottom of the mail.

The service itself

If you want to use our service, we also collect your email-address. This email-address is used to authenticate you and send notifications, if required.

How do I get out?

You can get your email-address wiped from our database by deleting your account. As a downside, you can no longer use our service.

Billing partner

If you chose to subscribe to our paid plan, your email-address is being transferred to stripe, a service that makes life easy for us when it comes to international payments. Unfortunately, we depend on money so the billing-feature is required.

You can find their privacy statement at https://stripe.com/gb/privacy.

How do I get out?

If you do not want us to transfer your email address to stripe, we cannot invoice you, which means that you - unfortunately - cannot use our service.

Cookies

This site could use cookies, which our service needs for technical details like which language you are using or even for your own security like XSRF-token. This information is not shared with any third-party services.

How do I get out?

You can't. You could delete those cookies, but it would make no sense at all.

We don't like tracking, either. And we don't really like clicking away all those annoying consent banners. So we decided to use the privacy-friendly tracking tool the guys at usefathom.com created. They don't use cookies, they don't (want) to know who you are or what you usually prefer for dinner. They just want to count visitors.

Interesting, hm? Go and check out the privacy statement of the fine guys at https://usefathom.com/legal/privacy.

How do I get out?

As no personal data is being stored, you cannot delete those data. You might ask: "But what about DNT?" It is deprecated in most browsers, and it is not the best idea to use it anyway.

As we need to know what happens on our software, we use Sentry (Functional Software, Inc., 45 Fremont Street, 8th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94105, USA) for error monitoring and performance analysis of our application. This means that technical data (such as IP address, device type, time of the error, and possibly user input) may be transmitted to Sentry. The processing of this data is based on our legitimate interest (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR) in ensuring the stability and security of our application. Data may be transferred to the United States.

Sentry is committed to complying with the Standard Contractual Clauses for the protection of personal data.

To be honest: We don't care for your personal data there. We just want to see spans of our application to identify bottlenecks and issues. And we assume bug-free software is a goal we all share, so we decided to opt in to this great service. And of course, your data is automatically removed from sentry after the retention period ends (30 days).

For more information, please refer to Sentry’s privacy policy: https://sentry.io/privacy/.
